Our goal with this market commentary is to share our view of the market with you. We use a holistic approach to analyzing the market: we look at fundamental data, technical data, economic data, psychological data, and utilize historical precedent to have a vision for what we feel is happening in the market. Having a view is a small (but important) piece of the game. The bigger (and most important) piece is deciding which securities to select and take action on to deliver superior investment returns relative to the perceived market risks. Our goal is to be long of equities that we feel are undervalued either due to A) a broad market sell off that unfairly punishes the value of a security, or B) the market over punishing a security which we feel has significant value and demonstrates superior fundamentals (earnings & sales growth, return on equity, cash flow, etc). “Value”, like beauty, is often in the eye of the beholder. Only by using a holistic market approach can one hope to catch on to what others perceive as having value and act quickly enough to realize the value before others catch on.
